Quels sont les fruits et légumes qui contiennent le moins de pesticides ?

Pesticides present health risks, yet they continue to play a major role in the way we think about agriculture. Good to know, this list includes all the least contaminated fruits and vegetables.

While it’s advisable to choose organic food to avoid ingesting pesticides, it’s sometimes difficult to eat 100% organic. As the WHO reminds us, pesticides are « potentially toxic to humans and can have chronic and acute effects on health ». So, can you buy conventionally grown fruit and vegetables without fearing for your health? This is the question addressed each year by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), which lists the fruits and vegetables most (and least) exposed to pesticides. To produce this ranking, the American organization relies on figures provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. 46,659 samples taken from 46 of the world’s most widely consumed fruits and vegetables were used to determine which had the lowest pesticide content in 2023.

How to avoid pesticides?

To make the most of conventionally grown fruit and vegetables, soak them for a good twenty minutes in lukewarm water, then rinse them before eating. You can also clean your fruit and vegetables in cold water with a little baking soda, coarse salt or white vinegar. The best thing to do, however, is to opt for organic and local produce. A must? Having your own vegetable garden!
