Located in the Yvelines region, southwest of Paris, Versailles is world-famous for its chateau, the famous Château de Versailles, as well as its gardens, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Created by the will of King Louis XIV, the town was the seat of French political power for over a century, from 1682 to 1789. During this period, it also became the cradle of the French Revolution. Following these historic events, it lost its status as a royal city, becoming the capital of Seine-et-Oise and then of Yvelines in 1968.

Now an affluent residential town, Versailles is a leading international tourist destination. Tourists and visitors flock to this former royal city every day, first and foremost to discover the château and its gardens, but also to visit many other cultural and historical buildings.

Choosing the right accommodation in Versailles is essential to making the most of your stay in this city with its emblematic Château. So where to stay in Versailles? To help you plan your trip, we’ve listed the best areas to stay in Versailles.
