Capital of the German state of Lower Saxony, located on the banks of the River Leine, Hanover is one of the largest cities in northern Germany, third only to Hamburg and Bremen. The German city has almost 532,000 inhabitants and covers an area of 204km².

Known as a vibrant student city, Hannover is home to several institutions of higher education. It is also a major economic and industrial center in Germany, hosting renowned trade fairs and exhibitions every year, thanks to its exhibition grounds, the largest in the world! The beautiful German city boasts a well-preserved historical heritage. Its cultural life is highly varied, thanks to numerous museums and theaters. The city’s finest tourist attractions are, of course, its Old Town, as well as the Marktkirche (market church), the semi-artificial Machsee lake and the Landtag. A « fil rouge » (4.2km) route allows you to visit the 36 main sights of the city center in a single walk. Follow it and you won’t miss a thing!

As a host to a large number of international and national trade fairs, the city has a wide range of accommodation on offer. So finding accommodation in Hannover won’t be complicated. However, choosing the right neighborhood is essential to making the most of the city. We invite you to discover the best areas to stay in Hanover!

Mitte: the historic city center

If you’re looking for accommodation in Hanover, there’s no better place to stay than in the Mitte: the city center. This is the best district for accessing the city’s tourist and historical attractions, such as the famous Marktkirche or the Town Hall. Mitte is also home to numerous museums, such as the Historical Museum, which traces the city’s history from the Middle Ages to the present day.

For lunch, dinner or partying, the Mitte district is also perfect: you’ll find plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy after dark!

When it comes to housing in Hanover’s Mitte district, there’s no need to worry. This is the most attractive district, with an abundant and sometimes even inexpensive supply of accommodation.

Oststadt: the place to stay in Hanover

The Oststadt district is just behind the main railway station. It’s a great place to stay in Hanover. You’re close to the city center, which makes sightseeing easier, and close to the main train station. This means you don’t have to carry your luggage back and forth through the Old Town – if you’re coming by train, or if Hanover is just a stopover on a long trip through northern Germany.

This district is also adjacent to Eilenriede Park: a veritable forest in the city, nicknamed the « green heart of Hanover ». It’s the perfect place to stroll and relax after a long visit to the Old Town.

Linden-Nord

For accommodation in Hanover, Linden-Nord is also a good option. This district has a more authentic atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the Old Town. For your accommodation in Hanover, we recommend the area between Linden-Nord and Parc Von Alten. You can also easily reach the historic center by public transport.

The district is especially popular for its nightlife, with excellent, friendly bars such as Lindwurm and Bar Añejo. Linden-Nord also boasts a number of small, friendly restaurants to discover during your visit to Hanover!

Döhren-Wülfel

If you’re coming to the beautiful German city to attend one of the many trade fairs taking place at the Exhibition Center, Döhren-Wülfel is the perfect place to stay in Hanover. From your accommodation, you’ll have easy access to the Exhibition Center on foot, without having to use public transport.

For visits to the Old Town, however, allow 20 minutes by public transport.
