Take a vacation in Belize, a dream destination with turquoise lagoons and many beautiful islands. Here are the most beautiful islands to stay on during your stay in Belize.
Belize is renowned for its incredible seabed, which will leave even the most experienced divers breathless! With 250 km of coastline, hundreds of small islands and cays stretching along the world’s second largest barrier reef, Belize offers a wide choice of diving and snorkelling sites. But Belize’s islands are quite numerous, so it can be hard to choose. Here’s some information on which island to stay on in Belize, depending on the type of trip you’re planning.
San Pedro, the tourist town
The island is actually called Ambergis Caye, but everyone in Belize calls it San Pedro, after the main town in the south of the island. San Pedro is Belize’s largest island, so this is where the biggest resorts are located. The island has its own airport, providing easy access from other Belizean towns and even from other countries. It can also be reached by boat from the port of Belize City, the capital: the journey takes around 1h30. Despite its touristy nature, San Pedro is an excellent place to stay for boat trips, particularly for admiring the many rays, sharks and the sublime coral reef.

Quiet Caye Caulker
Just 40 minutes by boat from the capital’s port is the charming Caye Caulker. The island is becoming increasingly popular, so you won’t be alone, but it’s much quieter than San Pedro. Caye Caulker can be reached in 30 minutes on foot. There are no cars here, just walking or cycling. The island is filled with charming, colorful wooden cottages, palm trees and quiet waterside bars. The best-known of these is the Lazy Lizard, at the very north of the island, where you can watch the sunset while sipping a cocktail in the warm Caribbean waters. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, staying at Caye Caulker is ideal.

Turneffe Atoll, the luxury
Turneffe Atoll is a collection of heavenly islets that will delight ocean lovers. The atoll boasts some 70 diving spots, perfect for admiring the underwater fauna. Sharks, manatees, turtles, anemones and more, all in an unspoilt environment. But above all, there are very few hotels on these islands, and the few that do exist are simply overpriced! Unlike the two islands mentioned above, there are no regular public boats, which makes Turneffe Atoll a very special and intimate place. Avoid Turneffe Atoll if your accommodation budget is limited.
