Are you planning a trip to Belize soon, and would like to organize your arrival in the country’s largest city? Here’s where to stay in Belize City!
Belize City is Belize’s largest city, and its main point of entry. So, if you’re looking for a vacation in Belize, you may need to spend a night here on arrival or before your flight home, for example. As the city isn’t very well developed for travelers, we’d like to give you a few tips on where to stay in Belize City.
Hotels are few and far between in this city, with barely fifty establishments to choose from. However, the standard of accommodation is quite varied, with establishments ranging from 1 to 5 stars and offering rates to suit all budgets. To sleep in Belize City, close to the city center, you’ll need to budget between €20 and over €300 a night. However, it’s important to note that youth hostels or guesthouses are not at all developed in this city, so if you’re looking for a cheap hotel in Belize City, it’s bound to be a classic hotel with a private room.
West Landivar and King’s Park, near the airport
To make the most of your trip, we recommend that you choose accommodation in a convenient location. Belize City is a fairly large city, but above all, not very touristy. Some neighborhoods are therefore not to be visited by travelers.
If you want to stay close to the airport so as not to waste time in traffic jams (which are few and far between in Belize City), it’s best to book a hotel in the West Landivar or King’s Park areas. Many good-quality establishments are located in this area.
Buttonwood Bay and Bella Vista
You can also choose to enjoy the beach and the beautiful bay in which Belize City is located: for this, opt for a hotel in Buttonwood Bay or the Bella Vista district. These are also upmarket areas, so rooms are quite expensive.
Port of Belize City
Finally, another nice option is to choose a hotel near the port of Belize City, as this is where all the ferries leave for the country’s various paradise islands. It’s also in this area, in the south-east of the city, that the only tourist attractions are to be found, such as the Belize Museum and several pretty churches.
In any case, there’s not much point in staying in Belize City – it’s more of a stopping-off point if you have a plane to catch, or a connecting flight to another country. In fact, Belize’s airport serves many Central American countries, making it a very convenient base. Last but not least, it’s also the best point of entry for discovering the beauty of the Caribbean Sea!
