Are you planning to visit the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the Basque country or Béarn? To help you organize your stay, here’s where to stay in Anglet!
Stretching nine kilometers from north to south, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and including Bayonne and Biarritz, Anglet is a sprawling commune of just 38,663 inhabitants in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64) department. Occupied since the Middle Paleolithic (100,000 to 35,000 years ago), and part of a Roman territory, Anglet was founded in the Middle Ages, around the Brindos district, whose existence is mentioned in 1083.
Often in the shadow of its rivals Bayonne and Biarritz, Anglet is little-known to the general public, except for sports enthusiasts. Anglet is a town where many sporting disciplines are represented by the town council: aikido, basketball, horse riding, soccer, golf, ice hockey, figure skating, pelote basque, rugby, surfing…
Between the sports, the historical and cultural heritage and the eleven beaches of Anglet, you won’t be bored when you come to stay in Anglet. But where exactly can you book accommodation in Anglet? Here’s our mini-tour of the town’s neighborhoods.
Towards the Pignada forest
It’s worth noting that 10% of Anglet’s territory is covered in pine trees, thanks in part to the Pignada forest, a vast green lung to the north of the town, on the banks of the Adour river. By staying in this area, you’ll be able to live or rent an apartment where you can sleep in Anglet, right in the middle of a soothing pine forest, between beach and greenery, to feel like you’re in the countryside.
There are plenty of hotels to sleep in, especially along the boulevard des plages to the west of the forest.

Blancpignon
Blancpignon is the district between theAdour river and the Pignada forest. It’s a former working-class district that’s become urbanized and commercialized, with access to a wide range of services. The avenue de l’Adour runs north to the ocean, and south to Bayonne for work or pleasure.
Why stay in Blancpignon? Because it’s an enclave for transients, and less popular than the Chiberta and beach districts to the west.

Anglet beaches
From the northern tip of Anglet to the border with Biarritz, a long string of eleven beaches stretches out where you can stay in Anglet: plage de la Barre, plage des Cavaliers, plage des Dunes, plage de l’Océan, plage de la Madrague, plage de la Petite Madrague, plage des Corsaires, plage de Marinella, plage des Sables d’Or, plage du Club and plage de la chambre d’amour. With a wide range of water sports, surf camps and surfing courses, Anglet’s beaches are pleasant and popular with everyone! But beware: in summer, they’re overcrowded, and you’d think you were on the Var coast…
Near the ocean beach and La Madrague, you’ll find the Chiberta forest, another of the commune’s green lungs, with its namesake lake. Here, too, you’ll find numerous hotels where you can stay in Anglet. These vast expanses are the perfect place to sip a drink on an ocean-side terrace.
