Do you have a business trip to Florence or a short weekend in Tuscany? A connecting flight, or a delayed or canceled flight means you have to stay put? Are you stressed the day before your departure? For all these reasons, it’s best to sleep close to the airport.

Florence is the cradle of the Renaissance and one of Italy’s most beautiful cities. If you have time, you can enjoy a stroll through the city center. The airport is easy to reach, and shuttle buses run between 6 a.m. and 12:30 a.m.. There’s also a cab rank available 24 hours a day. The city center is just four kilometers from the airport. Is Florence airport open at night?

Florence airport is open from 4 a.m. to midnight. It is therefore not possible to stay overnight. So you’ll need to find a hotel close to the airport to spend the night. However, if these times suit your needs, you can take advantage of the Wi-Fi. Sockets for recharging your electronic devices are also available.

Find a hotel at Florence airport

With the airport so close to the city center, there’s plenty of accommodation available. Don’t have time to explore Florence and just want to relax? Then you’ll easily find a hotel just a few minutes from the airport. Four hotels in particular caught our eye for their excellent location. Prices range from €40 to €120, depending on the season. And don’t forget to add a cab fare of between €15 and €20 for a round trip.

Ibis Firenze Nord Aeroporto ***

The hotel is located just five minutes from the airport, with excellent transport links. Reception is open 24 hours a day, but does not offer a free shuttle service. However, it is very easy to order a cab. The hotel and its rooms are modern and well-equipped. There’s also a restaurant serving Tuscan specialties and a bar. Do you have a car? Then take advantage of our free parking.

Novotel Firenze Nord Aeroporto ****

It’s a five-minute drive from the hotel to the airport. The hotel has the advantage of a free shuttle service. You can book your journey in advance directly at reception. You can also take the streetcar; the Vespucci station is a 1 km walk from the hotel.

The Novotel Firenze Nord Aeroporto features an outdoor swimming pool and a café/bar. In addition, the breakfast buffet and Wi-Fi are completely free of charge.

Hotel Franchi ***

Hotel Franchi is seven minutes from Florence airport. Unfortunately, the hotel does not offer a free shuttle service, and cabs cost around €15 return. The hotel can also be reached from the city center on lines 29, 30 and 35 (Pietri stop).

Nevertheless, the staff are very welcoming and speak French. Rooms are well-equipped with air conditioning and large TVs. Wi-Fi connection is totally free.

And if you’re hungry, there’s a restaurant where you can sample Italian specialties. Last but not least, the old town is nearby, so you can take a stroll if the weather permits.

Hilton Garden Inn ****

It’s a ten-minute drive from Florence airport to the Hilton Garden Inn. This means you’ll need to pay around €20 for a round-trip cab. The hotel has an excellent location and the rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. What’s more, the restaurant serves Tuscan specialties and a grocery store is open 24 hours a day. If you’re a sporty type, you can even take advantage of a modern, fully-equipped gym.

Finally, the Hilton is close to a streetcar station (Novoli) and a bus stop (Piccagli stop), making it easy to reach the city.

The hotels closest to airports are not the most financially attractive. However, Florence airport is very close to the old town. So you’ll have a wide choice of accommodation in the city center. You can opt for a hotel, but also Airbnb accommodation. Several districts are close to major roads, offering quick access to the airport. What’s more, you can use public transport to get around. Here are a few neighborhoods you might want to consider:

Novoli

The Novoli district is close to major roads and just ten minutes from the airport. It’s a good compromise for peace and quiet. In fact, unlike downtown Florence, this is not a commercial district. Nevertheless, there are plenty of bars and restaurants where you can spend a pleasant evening. What’s more, you’ll find much cheaper hotels than in the historic center. The city center is well served by public transport, and there’s a bus service to the airport. In addition to its proximity to the airport, the district is also home to the ruins of Villa San Donato. This 19th-century palace built by a Russian ambassador is well worth a visit.

Sesto Fiorentino

Sesto Fiorentino is the second closest neighborhood to the airport. The area grew rapidly after the Second World War. It’s a dynamic district that’s constantly expanding. Sesto Fiorentino lies outside the old town, but a bus line connects it with the old town. Visitors who want to get off the beaten track come to visit the parks and various monuments. Indeed, the district is home to a number of historical secrets, such as the Etruscan tomb « La Montagnola ». You can also enjoy the Pieve di Sant’Andrea a Cercina church, which is magnificent and not very touristy.

Where to park at Florence airport?

Do you have a rental car or are you bringing your own? If so, you can leave it in the airport’s P1 or P2 parking lots. The cheapest rate is €24 for a day and €108 for a week.
