The airport is only 5 km from the city center, making it particularly accessible. It is served by both public transport and cabs, and there are several car rental agencies on site. The least expensive: bus transfers

Timetable: departures every 20 minutes, from 5:30 am to 11:00 pm
The most economical way to get from Tromsø airport to the city center is by public transport. Bus routes 24, 40 and 42 during the day, and routes 60 and 63 at night, serve numerous stops throughout the city.
Bus stops are located behind parking lots P2 and P3, and tickets can be purchased on board, in cash only, or at ticket kiosks. You can also book your ticket in advance on the TFT Mobillett application. Tickets purchased in advance are generally cheaper, with discounts of up to 25%!
Pets are welcome on board, and vehicles are accessible to strollers, wheelchairs, skis and bicycles.
Good to know: the bus stop from and to the airport is called Flyplassen. Also note: night services are much less frequent, with only two buses per hour.
The fastest way: transfer by cab

More flexible than the bus, cabs take you from Tromsø airport to the city center in just a few minutes. Cabs are readily available outside the international arrivals terminal.
This mode of transport is particularly interesting if you’re traveling with several people, as it allows you to share the fare. The cab transfer then becomes less expensive than a bus journey.
It’s also possible to book your cab in advance and online. Platforms such as TaxiTender let you anticipate everything before your flight. Book your cab online, pay and receive confirmation by e-mail. Once you’ve completed these steps, there’s nothing more to do. Your driver will be waiting for you at the terminal exit.
The most comfortable: Flybussen Airport Express

The Flybussen Airport Express is the airport shuttle. It serves several stops in the city, and in particular stops right in front of the major hotels in the center: the Scandic Grand Hotel, the Clarion Hotel The Edge, and the Scandic Ishavhotel. This is an undeniable advantage when it comes to transporting your luggage easily, in case of late arrival or snowstorm.
Tickets can be purchased from a kiosk inside the airport, and the bus stop is just outside the terminal. The buses are easy to spot: they’re bright red!
Please note: fares do not change at weekends. On the other hand, connections are much less frequent. Only 14 departures on Sundays and 10 on Saturdays, compared with over 30 on weekdays. As a general rule, shuttle times are aligned with airport departure times, so don’t hesitate to ask your hotel for confirmation.

You don’t want to face the queues in front of cabs or bus stops? Book a private transfer from Tromsø airport to the city center. You’ll enjoy a trip in a comfortable vehicle, particularly suited to groups of up to 6 people. You can also book car seats that comply with European legislation.
The driver will be waiting for you when your flight arrives, with a sign bearing your name, for a quick and easy pick-up. If your flight is delayed, don’t panic! He’ll wait for you for 60 minutes. He’ll then take you straight to the entrance of your hotel, apartment or campsite.

Would you like to take advantage of your stay to explore the Tromsø area? Then rent your car directly from the airport. There are five international car rental agencies on site: Hertz, Sixt, Europcar, Avis and Budget. The rental counters are located on the second floor of the airport, and are open every day of the week, from 07:00 to midnight Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 22:00 on Saturday, and from 10:00 to 23:00 on Sunday.
For greater convenience, and to make sure you have a vehicle when you arrive, book online. Booking platforms such as Rentalcars offer you the best vehicles at the best prices. Depending on the season, avoid entry-level vehicles. Even if all tires are studded in this region, they offer less stability on snowy and/or icy Arctic roads!
It takes just a few minutes to get to the center of Tromsø via the expressway.
Good to know: rentals are very often billed in 24-hour increments, hour by hour. If you plan the return of your vehicle carefully, you could save a few dozen euros. For example, if you rent your car on Saturday at 12:00 and return it the following day at 11:00, you’ll only be billed for 23:00 of rental time, i.e. a single day. A useful tip to keep in mind for your next reservation!
Sleeping near Tromsø airport
Due to its close proximity to the city, there is no accommodation in the immediate vicinity of Tromsø-Langnes airport. The nearest hotels and apartments are located in the west of the city, in the University district or on the northwest coast of Tromsøya island. The city center is also an option, as the transfer from Tromsø airport to the city center is quick and easy.
