Ready to board? Follow the guide, here are the best ways to plan your transfer between the airport and downtown Naples!
Naples-Capodichino airport: shuttle transfer
While there is a bus line integrated into the Neapolitan network – the 3S line – which provides a transfer between the airport and Naples city center, the best way to get there is still the service offered by Alibus.
Between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., for €5, Alibus shuttles run between Naples-Capodichino airport and a choice of two stops in the city of Naples:
- Central Station (Piazza Garibaldi)
- The port of Naples (Piazza Municipio)
It’s a good idea to choose the Central Station stop, which is close to several metro and RER lines, so you can take advantage of public transport to discover other parts of the city. What’s more, the ticket entitles you to use all Neapolitan public transport for 90 minutes after purchase!
The Port of Naples stop is perfect for exploring the city on foot directly after getting off the shuttle, or for boarding a ferry that will take you to other points of interest in the Bay of Naples: a local seaside resort, or Pompeii, for example?
Whichever you choose, it will take you around 30 minutes to get from the airport to your stop, depending on traffic. Shuttles leave every 20 minutes from the airport, and tickets can be purchased directly from the driver.
Some websites allow you to buy tickets in advance, which have the advantage of being given priority. In other words, you’ll be sure to find a seat on board even if there are lots of people queuing!
Finally, the shuttle bus transfer between the airport and Naples city center is free if you present a Naples City Pass.
Naples-Capodichino airport: cab transfer
In addition to the above-mentioned main solution, you can organize your transfer between the airport and Naples city center by taking advantage of the many cabs waiting for you at a dedicated station – located opposite the main arrivals hall – and offering routes to Piazza Garibaldi or the port of Naples. The former will cost you around €20, the latter €5 more.
Note that other more or less equivalent transport services are available locally, such as Uber or companies offering chauffeur-driven cars. In any case, don’t forget to ask for the fare beforehand, and make sure there’s an official meter in the vehicle, to avoid scams and other disappointments!
Book your Naples airport cab with TaxiTender. It’s an online booking platform for reliable and affordable airport transfers. Your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals area, with a sign bearing your name. He or she will then take you to exactly where you want to go. Cancellation is free of charge. If you’ve booked an early morning flight to Naples airport, or if you simply prefer to take a cab to the airport, this platform is ideal for that purpose.
Naples-Capodichino airport: car rental
Finally, as soon as you arrive at the airport, you can take advantage of the numerous car rental agencies located just a few minutes away by shuttle (free of charge) at the far end of the airport, offering vehicles for rent. Once you’ve got the keys in your pocket, all you have to do is take the « Tangenziale », another name for theA56 urban freeway, to reach downtown Naples or any other part of the city.
A flexible solution that offers a certain degree of freedom, we recommend that you assess whether it’s worth the risk. Naples is a city of heavy and, let’s face it, chaotic traffic. If you’re not planning to explore the city’s surroundings, but rather spend your entire stay within the city, you’d be better off using the two previous solutions for transfers between the airport and Naples city center.
