Your plane landed in Katowice and you’d like to get to Krakow? A shuttle bus will take you to Krakow in less than 2 hours for around €15, but other means of transport are also available.
Several low-cost airlines, such as Wizzair from France, offer flights to Katowice airport as an alternative to Krakow. This usually saves a few welcome euros on the plane ticket, but bear in mind that Katowice airport is located 100 kilometers from the city of Krakow. There is no train station near the airport, and it takes about 1h30 to get to Krakow by bus or cab. Bus transfer from Katowice airport to Krakow
If you’re traveling to Krakow and have booked a ticket online on the WizzAir website, you’ve probably already made a reservation for the shuttle service between Katowice airport and Krakow.
Bus schedules are coordinated with those of WizzAir flights, so that when you collect your luggage on arrival and leave the terminal, your bus will be waiting for you outside.
Two separate operators run transfers to Krakow: Kraków Pyrzowice Express (+48 603 966 598, pyrzowiceekspres.pl), which cooperates directly with WizzAir, and Matuszek Airport Bus Service (+48 32 236 11 11, matuszek.com.pl), which independently offers the same service but for a slightly lower price. Pyrzowice is the name of Katowice airport.
If you don’t make the reservation (costing around PLN 60 or €13.70) on the WizzAir website when you book your flight, you can do so directly with one of the two companies for just PLN 44 (Przychowice Express) or PLN 43 (Matuszek). You can also buy your ticket in cash from the driver (PLN 50 for both airlines) if there is space available, but we recommend that you reserve a seat in advance to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
Both services will drop you off at Krakow’s main bus station around 1h30 to 2h later, where you can take public transport or the short walk to the Old Town, depending on where your hotel is located.
Train transfer from Katowice to Krakow
The Matuszek bus company also runs buses to Katowice station (35 min). From this station, you can take a train for 35-42 PLN to Krakow (approx. 1h30 journey). This is not the most convenient or quickest solution, nor is it any cheaper than taking the bus directly from Katowice airport to Krakow.
Cab transfer from Katowice airport to Krakow
If you don’t want to take the bus and want to take a cab from Katowice airport to Krakow, you can find one on the spot. However, you can’t be sure whether the driver speaks English, or whether he’s willing to drive from Katowice to Krakow. It’s best to book a cab in advance(for €92 you can have a private transfer for 4 people).
If you’re a group of 5 to 8 travelers, it may also be worth booking a minibus to pick you up on arrival in Katowice. This will cost you €118, or less than €15 per person.
