The cheapest: bus and streetcar

Vola in Bus

Duration: approx. 20 minutes (depending on your point of arrival)

Fares: €6 one-way, €10 round-trip

Timetable: one departure every 30 minutes, 7 days a week, from 5am to 00.10am

Buses are often the most economical way to transfer between Florence airport and Siena. The company Vola in Bus offers transfers between Florence airport and the city center. Shuttles drop you off at Florence’s Santa Maria Novella train station. The journey is non-stop to the terminus.

Gest Tramvia

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes on average

Since February 11, 2019, a streetcar line (T2) has been running between Florence airport and the city center. It’s definitely the cheapest option, but you’ll only be doing one leg of the journey. The tramway connects Florence airport with the city center, but not Siena. You’ll then have to choose between taking the bus, cab or train to transfer between Florence airport and Siena.

  • From Monday to Thursday and on Sundays, streetcars run from 5am to 12:30am.
  • On Fridays and Saturdays, streetcars run from 5am to 2am.

The fastest: train and bus

Trenitalia

Running time: 1h28

Price: €9.50

Timetable: from 5.35 am to 9.38 pm

Taking the train is often the quickest way to get around, especially if the line is direct. Trenitalia is the Italian state-owned railway company in charge of the train network. The company’s trains run between Florence’s SNM station and Siena. Tickets can be booked online on the company’s official website.

Good to know: Siena’s train station is just two kilometers from the historic center. From there, city buses leave for the city center every ten minutes.

Sienna Mobilità

Duration: 1h15 for the « rapida » line (131R), 1h35 for the ordinary line (131O)

Fares: €7.80 one-way, €12 on board

Timetable: departures every 15 to 20 minutes, from 6.25 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A subsidiary of Busitalia, Sienna Mobilità is the company that provides transfers between Florence airport and Siena. The advantage of this shuttle service is that the journey is fast, especially if you take the Rapida line. The bus takes the freeway and is non-stop all the way to Siena.

The most comfortable solution is undoubtedly a shuttle with a private driver. The driver will pick you up at the airport and drop you off at your hotel in Siena. Florence airport is 70 kilometers from Siena. For transfers between Florence airport and Siena, taking a cab is the most available, but also the most expensive, solution. All you have to do is inform the cab service of your arrival time at Florence airport. A cab driver will be waiting for you outside the terminal.
