The WHO advises against consuming more than 25 grams of sugar a day. But it can be hard to spot! Sugar is found in many more ingredients than you might think…

Indeed, a multitude of sources of sugar are hidden in our daily diet, particularly in industrial foods. Find out which foods contain the most sugar!

How does sugar find its way into our diet?

Sugar is present in many foods! Sugar is a carbohydrate found naturally in many foods, including fruit, vegetables and dairy products.

These foods generally contain a moderate amount of sugar, along with nutrients and fiber that contribute to a balanced diet.

However, many processed foods and industrial products contain much more added sugar.

Added sugar is used to improve the taste of food, and is found in many products such as soft drinks, candies, pastries, sweet cereals, sauces and condiments…

What foods contain sugar?

Hidden sugar can play tricks on you! Sugar-rich products often undergo multiple transformations before reaching your plate.

Although some products may seem innocent, it’s often difficult to determine whether they actually contain sugar.

Oat milk can contain around 5 g of sugar per 100 ml, making it a sweeter food compared to some other types of milk.

However, the amount of sugar may vary from brand to brand, and there are also unsweetened versions of oat milk available on the market.

As for industrial ketchup, it generally contains around 21 g of sugar per 100 g. One third of a jar of this sauce contains sugar. In effect, you’re eating one teaspoon of sugar for every teaspoon of ketchup!

Low-fat yoghurt may have a few surprises in store for you! It may be low in fat, but it does contain a certain amount of sugar.

Just because something is low in fat doesn’t mean it’s necessarily healthy. In fact, some yogurts can contain over 45g of sugar, which is almost double the recommended daily limit!

Who’d have thought? Store-bought smoothies contain a considerable amount of added sugar, artificial coloring and calories. In fact, some smoothies contain virtually no fruit at all.

As far as cookies are concerned, it’s no surprise to learn that Milka brand cookies contain over 20 lumps of sugar!
