Are you planning a trip to Thailand and want to go diving? We’ve got the 3 best diving and snorkeling spots in Thailand for you!
There’s no shortage of dive sites in Thailand. But with so many islands and beaches to choose from, it can be hard to choose. To help you see even more clearly in the crystal-clear waters, we present you with three perfect places to dive in Thailand! Of course, these places are also great for snorkeling!
The Similan Islands
The Similan Islands are certainly among the most beautiful in Thailand. And for good reason: they are somewhat remote and thus escape mass tourism. Dense coral and marine fauna populate the seabed and can lead to impressive discoveries. For Similan diving, we recommend staying in Khao Lak, a small, chic family resort just 45 minutes by boat from the islands. In Khao Lak, several diving centers offer day trips for all levels.
You’ll discover dozens of species of colorful fish, unique corals and a highly populated marine life. In fact, the Similan Islands are classified as a nature reserve and are closed for more than five months a year, allowing the fauna to regenerate between May and October! Think about it when you book your vacation!

2. Koh Tao
Koh Tao is one of the most popular islands for divers on vacation in Thailand, not least because of its very low prices. In fact, you can get your Open Water certificate here for less than 300 euros!
What’s more, Koh Tao’s crystal-clear, turquoise waters offer excellent diving opportunities. Among the species you can admire are rays, clownfish and squid. There are several dive sites around the island: Koh Nang Yuan (photo) is one of the best-known and easiest, perfect for novices, while other sites such as Chumphon Pinnacle are more for experienced divers.

3. Koh Samui
Koh Samui, a tourist island ideal for couples, families or groups of friends, can also be an excellent starting point for diving in Thailand. Indeed, the island is not far from the Ang Thong Natural Park, home to pristine islands and incredible underwater life. The archipelago is made up of 42 islands, which are themselves made up of mangroves and tropical jungle. Underwater, whether diving or snorkeling, you can observe sea turtles, red mullet, pink anemones and sea sponges.
On each island, you can easily find information and book your dive a little in advance. In fact, dive centers are springing up all over the place, and whether you’re on Koh Samui, Koh Tao or Khao Lak, you’ll find excursions to suit all prices and levels!
