Like many of the villages on this list, Lastours is home to a château. In fact, it’s home to four on its beautiful terroir. On the long, arid ridge overlooking the village, you’ll discover four royal fortresses! Travellers can also discover the magnificent remains of the castral village at the foot of the towers.
This site, unique in France, was also the territory of Bronze Age men before becoming that of the Cathars. You’ll find evidence of this in the surrounding caves.
11. Alet-les-Bains

A medieval waterfront village, Alet-les-Bains nestles in a meander of the Aude, between steep hills.
