1. Mount Carlit and its ponds

This is undoubtedly the most famous hike in the Pyrénées-Orientales. It takes you to the summit of Pic Carlit, which dominates the region at an altitude of 2,921 meters.

The views from up here are simply breathtaking. You can see the peaks ofAndorra, the Canigou and the Maladeta massif. You’ll also come across several ponds along the way.

This hike offers a remarkable panorama, without any great difficulty. It is, however, very busy!

2. Tour de la Massane

The reason why this hike in the Pyrénées-Orientales is so popular is that it offers incredible views over the Roussillon plain and the Vermeille coast.

The trail is well marked all the way. However, the first section is quite steep. Bring good walking shoes and something to quench your thirst.

If you don’t like to meet people on your hikes, it’s best to do them out of season. You’ll be more at peace!

3. The Carança gorges

Hikers looking for a challenge can explore the Carança gorges. Deep and winding, they are home to extraordinary landscapes.

But only the bravest of you will be able to discover them… It’s not for nothing that it’s called a vertigo trail! Monkey bridges and ladders are dotted along the way, not to mention the cornice passages. An unforgettable hike.

4. The Cortalets refuge and Canigou peak loop

This hike in the Pyrénées-Orientales is a must if you want to discover the Canigou massif. It takes you to the summit of Pic du Canigou, one of the highest peaks in the Pyrenees. It rises to an altitude of 2,784 meters! The view is split between sea and mountains: a true marvel.

But be warned: it’s a tough climb… for trained walkers only!

5. Taillefer Pass, Madeloc Tower and Battery 500

Despite its steep gradient, this hike is accessible to everyone, provided they’re in good physical condition.

It offers superb views of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. But what makes it unique is the Madeloc Tower and Battery 500. Historic stops that are as beautiful as they are exciting!

6. The loop of the nine Carlit ponds

Head to the heart of the Capcir to start this magnificent loop trail. The scenery along the way is breathtaking. And yet there are no particular difficulties along the way.

You’ll come across nine high-altitude lakes, as splendid in summer as they are in winter. A must-see!

7. La cascade des Anglais

This out-and-back trail to the Cascade des Anglais offers a pleasant, easily accessible walk. The route passes through a beautiful forest, allowing you to enjoy the shade of the trees. You can even take children along for the ride! But don’t forget your hiking boots.

At the height of the season, you’ll see a lot of people. And not for nothing: the setting is idyllic, and you can even go for a swim! A great way to spend a hot summer afternoon.

8. Col d’Eina peak and Núria peak

Meet us in the town of Eyne to start this hike in the Pyrénées-Orientales. You’ll pass through bucolic landscapes, with meadows, forests and streams.

They are home to a rich biodiversity, which offers its fair share of marvels! The views from the peaks of Eina and Núria are breathtaking.

A rather difficult hike, but definitely worth the detour.

9. Pla de Barrès and the Têt valley

10. The Vingrau cliff circuit

Looking for a technical challenge? This beautiful hike in the Pyrénées-Orientales takes you up the cliffs of Vingrau, in the heart of the Corbières region, 30 kilometers from Perpignan. At the summit, the panorama over the valley is exceptional.

But the cliffs of Vingrau are above all famous for their climbing spots. Those who are not afraid of the cold can take the risk of climbing the steep slopes. But be warned: the difficulty is high!

11. Elmes beach and Cap Béar

Welcome to the pretty Plage des Elmes, with its superb view of the coastal path. It’s from here that you start your journey to the Cap Béar lighthouse! A change of scenery is guaranteed on this superb site, among prickly pear trees and the howling of the wind.

A very pleasant hike overlooking the Mediterranean. It’s also possible to reach Cap Béar from Port-Vendres.
