1. Source of Ficaghola

Starting out from Corte, this 7.7-kilometer trail takes you to the Ficaghjola spring. An easy walk accessible to all, it extends into the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse and takes you all the way into the Tavignano valley. It’s a great introduction to the nature of Haute-Corse. You’ll start your hike at the end of Rue Saint-Joseph, then plunge into rich vegetation.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the gorges and surrounding peaks. In summer, you can even swim in the charming Tavignano pools!

2. The Tavignano gorges and the Rossulinu bridge

Immerse yourself in the Gorges du Tavignano with this superb hike! This moderately-difficult 12-kilometer walk takes you through the Tavignano valley. Starting from the Corte Citadel, follow the path marked Mare à Mare nord.

Then you’re off into the wild gorges of the river, with small, sometimes steep climbs. Once you’ve reached the Russulinu bridge, you’ll find the charming natural pools where you can take a dip during the summer months.

3. The Corte Arch

This challenging one-day hike will take you to one of the wonders of the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse: the Arche de Corte. For this adventure, you’ll start at the end of Rue Saint-Joseph in Corte. The path is very steep, with over 1,000 meters of ascent and descent. Along the way, of course, you’ll come across the sublime natural arch.

From here, you’ll enjoy incredible views over Corte and the Tavignano valley. On this loop, you’ll also pass through the Bergeries de Padule and Pasturicciola in the foothills of the Pinerole.

4. Melu and Capitellu lakes

Would you like to go hiking in Corte, but don’t know which one to choose? This superb walk to the Melo and Capitello lakes is an ideal option! Unlike the previous ones, it starts from the Bergeries de Grotelle. The route is very well signposted and fairly accessible, apart from a few tricky sections equipped with chains.

You’ll be surrounded by mountains, following the course of the Restonica. The first lake you reach is Melo, a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by rock. The climb to Capitello lake is then more arduous, but you’ll arrive at another of the region’s wonders, nestled in a beautiful rocky setting.

5. Sant Eliseu Chapel

This superb loop starts in Santo-Pietro-di-Venaco near its church. This beautiful mountain trail passes several sheepfolds and spans the Misongno stream. After a few climbs, you’ll reach the charming Sant’Eliseo chapel at 1,555 m altitude.

You’ll enjoy superb views of the mountain and surrounding countryside. The descent takes place on another side of the mountain. You’ll complete a loop with this superb hike around Corte, and enjoy a wide variety of beautiful landscapes.

6. La Pointe du Corbeau

This charming hike in Corte begins near the Oratory of Saint-Antoine. It takes you up to the Punta di u Corbu. The beginning of the path is quite steep. You’ll find yourself in the middle of scrubland, with rockroses and old oaks.

Once you reach the top, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Corte and the valley. For the descent, you can retrace your steps or take the Calvaire road back to Corte.

A charming hike in Corte, the trail takes you through the famous Tavignano valley. The trail begins at the end of Rue Saint-Joseph. You’ll then head for the Ficaghjola spring and the Cucchinu spring.

En route, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the gorges and cliffs of the peaks. You’ll also pass through the magnificent lariccio pine forest of the Tavignano integral biological reserve.

8. Punta di Zurmulu

Starting at Corte railway station, this hike takes you to the summit of Punta di Zurmulu. You’ll straddle the Restonica and Tavignanu rivers, passing an ancient stronghold, now a museum of Corsica. You’ll then make your way through a variety of landscapes: oak forest, varied maquis, terraces, laricci and maritime pine forests.

Along the way and at the summit, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Tavignanu and Restonica valleys, Corte and even the Tyrrhenian Sea! Although fairly short, this hike is very strenuous, especially at the end.

9. Lake Ninu

Lac de Ninu is a superb hike around Corte. Departure is from the Maison Forestière de Popaghja, on the road between the Col de Verggio and Albertacce. Along the way, you’ll follow the Colga valley, passing the Colga sheepfold. After a tough rocky section, you’ll reach the magnificent Lac de Nino. Up here, you’ll enjoy superb views of the Cintu massif, Paglia Orba and even the Gulf of Porto!

Courageous hikers can then head for the Manganu refuge for a mountain hike in stages, or even the Séga refuge on the GR20.

10. Monte Rotondo

Looking for an easy hike around Corte? Then this trail to the Cascade des Anglais is a superb option! Only 3 kilometers long, this walk takes you through the beautiful Vizzavona forest. You’ll also pass over a ridge where you’ll find the ruins of the ancient Fort de Vizzavona. Still through the woods, you finally reach the Cascades des Anglais.

In summer, you can take a dip in the small, beautiful ponds that border them. Beautiful views also await you, especially of Monte d’Oro, which dominates the valley. This hike around Corte is ideal for a family day out.
