What is Mapstr?

Mapstr is an application that lets you create your own interactive map by storing all your favorite addresses. You can then sort them with tags, share them with your community and exchange tips, and plan your next trips. Mapstr is a French application designed by Sébastien Caron, with a single objective in mind: to save all your addresses in an ultra-simple, visual way, with no limits. The aim of Mapstr is to build a map of YOUR world.
With Mapstr you can :
–Register all the locations you want (even non-commercial ones)
– View all your addresses instantly on a map or in a list, without needing a connection
– Access all location info (website, opening hours, photos, phone number, etc.)
– Filter them using a system of customizable tags
– Send addresses to friends
Created in 2014, the Mapstr app is now present in over 150 countries and has already recorded over 8 million locations worldwide!
How does it work?

Mapstr is designed to be quick and easy to use.
– First, download the application on iOS or Android – it’s free! Then create your account.
– Want to register a new location? Click on the « + » icon to add an address.
– You have a choice of :
- Start typing the beginning of the name or address, just like on a GPS, and the app will make suggestions.
- Choose a location right next to you by geolocating yourself.
- Take a photo of the address in a magazine, and Mapstr will automatically recognize it.
- Or simply press a point on the map, right where you want to note the address!
– Mapstr will then automatically retrieve the photos, phone number, opening hours and all the other data for the location, so you don’t have to do a thing… Want to classify your addresses? Use tags : #resto, #burgers, #hostel… (a bit like Pinterest!)
– Once you’ve saved your addresses, your » map of your world » is created. You’re presented with a map in which only your favorite addresses stand out.
Good to know: Mapstr works like a social network. You can subscribe to friends, explore their address book maps, save the ones that tempt you and that you want to discover on your own map (this can be done via Facebook Connect or via a classic friend search).

Honestly, there aren’t really any drawbacks to this app. Perhaps the requirement to save addresses before consulting them!
Mapstr: the editor’s opinion
Clear, simple, useful and effective… This app is definitely the one to have when traveling (and even on a daily basis)! It’s a huge success and, above all, very practical.
Collect all your good addresses on your phone, and never forget them! In our opinion, this is Mapstr’s main asset. Your map can exist for sharing, but also for projection: by creating tags such as « to try » or « my favorite stores », you turn Mapstr into a personal directory, like a reminder.
The application also helps avoid unpleasant surprises. Before, you’d walk into a place without really knowing what you were getting into. With Mapstr, thanks to the images, comments and choices of your friends, you know what to expect, so you won’t be disappointed. Still, a little surprise now and then doesn’t hurt either…!
