How and where to rent a motorhome in France?
Would you like to explore Lake Constance by motorhome, but don’t have your own vehicle? It’s now very easy to rent these vehicles between private individuals, especially in France. Numerous online platforms, such as Yescapa, make this type of rental possible.
How does it work?
- First, you need to choose the motorhome in your city (e.g. Bordeaux, Nantes, Toulouse, Paris, Montpellier or Marseille).
- Make sure you choose unlimited mileage, check the number of berths available and whether international travel is possible.
- Make your rental request online and share your travel information (dates, rental options, mileage, etc.) with the owner.
- If your request is accepted and after payment, you will have access to the owner’s contact details to arrange a first meeting.
- On the day, present your driver’s license and pay the deposit.
- An inventory of fixtures is drawn up and a rental contract is signed by both parties. You’ll need to sign it as soon as you return from your stay, and once you’ve done that, that’s it!
Route ideas to Lake Constance by motorhome
Feeling lost when faced with the many possibilities offered by the lake? It’s normal, because it’s so extensive and passes through three different countries, that it’s difficult to plan an itinerary. But don’t panic, we’ve got you covered too.
So we’ve put together some ideas for weekend, four-day and week-long itineraries on Lake Constance in a motorhome. Of course, these are just a few ideas, which you can adapt to your own requirements.
Weekend itinerary
A weekend is far too short to discover the entire lake. So here are the main places to visit during your two days at Lake Constance in a motorhome:
- Day 1: Lindau peninsula, visit the lighthouse at the entrance to the port, stroll along the lake and relax on the pebble beaches;
- Day 2: Mainau, the flower island, visit the 45-hectare park and discover the many varieties of flowers and plants.
4-day itinerary
Four days at Lake Constance in a motorhome will allow you to discover another of the region’s must-sees: Constance. Nevertheless, in our opinion, it’s still not enough time to devote to such a diversity of places.
- Day 1 and 2: Resuming a weekend itinerary;
- Days 3 and 4: Constance. The city of Konstanz has so much to offer, it would probably take a whole week to explore every corner. Nevertheless, we recommend the historic center and the archaeological museum.
Itinerary for 1 week
One week is the minimum length of time needed to discover the most important wonders of Lake Constance by motorhome. Here are a few ideas to get you organized and make sure you don’t miss out on any of the region’s highlights.
- Day 1: Mainau, stroll among the flowers, visit the castle and St. Mary’s Church, two architectural jewels;
- Day 2: Constance, visit of the capital and in particular its historic center;
- Day 3: German Zappelin, airship flight for an unforgettable moment and another view of the lake;
- Days 4 and 5: Lindau, a relaxing day on the shores of the lake, enjoying the fine weather and pebble beaches.
- Day 6: Bregenz, hike to the top of Pfänder for breathtaking views;
- Day 7: St. Gallen Abbey, visit to the Abbey Library, to admire the grandeur of the premises and discover numerous manuscripts from another era.
