Drinking up to 3 cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of death

In a study published last year, researchers examined the association of coffee consumption with all-cause mortality and the risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

To carry out their research, the scientists analyzed the consumption data of 468,629 participants with no signs of heart disease over a median follow-up of 11 years.

Participants were divided into 3 groups: 22.1% consumed no coffee at all, 58.4% consumed light to moderate coffee (between 0.5 and 3 cups a day) and 19.5% consumed more than 3 cups a day.

According to the results, drinking between 0.5 and 3 cups of coffee a day was associated with lower risks of stroke, death from cardiovascular disease and death from any cause.

Light to moderate coffee consumption reduces the risk of death from all causes by 12%.

In detail, the results of the study revealed that light to moderate coffee consumption (0.5 to 3 cups per day) reduces the risk of death from all causes by 12%, death from cardiovascular disease by 17% andstroke by 21%.

» Our results suggest that regular coffee consumption is safe, as even high daily consumption was not associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality after a 10-15 year follow-up, » said study author Dr. Judit Simon, from the Heart and Vascular Center at Semmelweis University in Budapest.

Finally, the imaging analysis also indicated that daily consumers had  » healthier hearts with better size and function  » compared to individuals who drank little or no coffee.
