While the glycemic index helps diabetics to monitor their diet, it is also an essential factor when it comes to losing weight and looking after your health. The higher the GI, the more fat is stored!

Keeping your blood sugar levels under control is an essential factor in staying healthy (and slim)! Because it’s not just about food, we’re here to tell you which beverages have the highest glycemic index!

What is the glycemic index (GI)?

When we eat carbohydrates, there’s always a spike in blood sugar levels after ingestion.

The glycemic index (GI) measures blood sugar levels. It also represents the speed with which carbohydrates are digested and enter the bloodstream.

Different for each food and based on a physiological measurement, the glycemic index is measured on a scale from 0 to 100, and is considered high when it is over 60. The higher the glycemic index, the more carbohydrates contained in the food are « released » into the bloodstream.

Foods with a high glycemic index trigger high insulin secretion.

The problem? Insulin encourages the storage of sugars in the form of fats, leading to feelings of hunger. In other words, eating too many foods with a high glycemic index can lead to weight gain.

Here’s the list of drinks with the highest glycemic index!
