Have you ever wondered what happens to your body if you drink too much coffee? That’s a question researchers at theAustralian Centre for Precision Health have tried to answer!

Too much coffee disrupts sleep
Caffeine can disrupt sleep and lead to sleep problems such as insomnia.
Caffeine is a stimulant that keeps certain receptors in our brain awake, thus affecting our sleep.
Too much coffee promotes digestive problems
The caffeine in coffee can stimulate the production of gastric acid in the stomach, which can irritate the stomach lining and cause symptoms such as heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
Too much coffee makes us nervous
The stimulating and energizing effects of caffeine can make us feel restless! Caffeine can increase stress and anxiety levels, which can lead to feelings of nervousness.
Too much coffee promotes…dementia!
Ideally, we should be drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day, with little or no sugar! Drinking coffee in excess contributes to a reduction in brain size, leading to greater susceptibility to dementia.
This is the result of research carried out on over 400,000 people who include coffee in their daily routine. Those most at risk are those who drink more than 6 cups a day!
What’s more, coffee consumption can raise blood pressure and reduce blood flow to the brain, which can increase the risk of dementia.
