According to a study by the US National Cancer Institute, drinking a certain type of hot beverage may reduce the risk of death.

Drinking at least 2 cups a day may reduce mortality risk

To reach this conclusion, the researchers surveyed 498,000 people aged 40 to 69 registered with Britain’s Biobank.

According to results published last August in the Annals of internal medicine,  » during a median follow-up of 11.2 years, high tea consumption was slightly associated with a lower mortality risk in those who drank 2 or more cups per day, compared with those who did not. »

10% lower mortality risk

In detail, participants who enjoyed two or more cups of black tea a day had a 9-13% lower mortality risk than others.

The researchers noted that black tea drinkers had a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, ischemic heart disease or stroke.

On the other hand,  » no clear trend was observed for deaths from cancer or respiratory diseases ».

The health benefits of black tea

Drinking at least two cups of black tea every day could reduce mortality risk.

It has to be said, black tea has a lot to offer: among other things, it lowers « bad » cholesterol levels, boosts the cardiovascular system and lowers blood pressure.

Thanks to its antioxidants (notably flavonoids and polyphenols), black tea helps reduce inflammation and stress in the body, which can help prevent the onset of certain pathologies such as cancer.

In any case, these results suggest that tea (even at higher consumption levels) can be part of a diet considered healthy.
