Ginger to reduce menstrual pain

Numerous studies have shown that ginger plays a role in fighting inflammation.

During menstrual pain, ginger compounds inhibit the production of prostaglandins (involved in triggering muscular contractions of the uterus).

In an interview for Very Well Health, American gynecologist Anita Sadaty explains,  » Because the onset of menstrual cramps seems to be linked to excessive production of prostaglandins, it is thought that consuming ginger as a dietary supplement or tea may help reduce menstrual pain. »

As well as combating inflammation during the menstrual cycle, ginger is also reputed to be an effective analgesic for all types of pain.

According to a study published in 2009 in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, ginger is  » as effective as ibuprofen in relieving pain in women with primary dysmenorrhea » .

Ginger to control heavy menstrual bleeding

As well as relieving menstrual pain, ginger also helps to « control heavy menstrual bleeding « .

That’s what scientists proved in a 2015 clinical trial involving 92 women suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding.

According to the study results,  » levels of menstrual blood loss decreased significantly in participants  » who consumed ginger during three menstrual periods.

Note, however, that ginger cannot replace medical treatment.

In the event of persistent symptoms and severe menstrual pain, it’s important to consult a doctor to make sure you’re not suffering from a pathology such asendometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome.

Finally, ginger is contraindicated for people taking anticoagulants or beta-blockers.
