An overview of my favorite cities in Spain – Mediterranean coast
As you’ve probably already guessed, I’m going to tell you about the cities I love on the Mediterranean coast, of which there are 5: Jávea, Llançà, Murcia, Cartagena and Valencia.
Jávea
To start with, I’d like to introduce you to Jávea, a town in the Valencia department that I visited a few months ago and immediately fell in love with. I love this town because the climate is perfect: it’s very hot in summer, which means I can enjoy the beach, and in winter it’s not very cold! The sea water in Jávea is super clean and it’s great fun to swim in.
When I went to Jávea, I hiked up the Montgó mountain (Natural Park). It’s partly because of this that I loved the area: from up there there’s a beautiful view of the whole coast, and in summer, when the sky is clear, you can see the island of Ibiza in the distance! So I recommend renting an apartment in Jávea in summer!
Llançà
Then, much further north, in the region of Catalonia, I discovered the little town of Llançà, some 150 km from Barcelona, a few years ago. We had decided to stop there to visit a friend who takes a rental in Llançà every year. He told us it was worth the detour and that the beaches were very beautiful.
Clearly, he wasn’t wrong. On top of that, I remember loving the cuisine at Llançà, seafood dishes just the way I like them!
Murcia
Now let’s talk about Murcia, which I visited for the first time a few weeks ago, and of which I liked one thing above all: it was early December and super warm, and yes, that counts! Apart from that, the city is unfortunately not coastal, but I loved it all the same. If you go there, don’t forget to see the cathedral, which is just enormous – its bell tower is one of the tallest inSpain.
Cartagena
Staying in the same area, about 50 km away (if I’m not mistaken), I spent an afternoon in Cartagena, and it really felt like summer. Temperatures? I couldn’t tell you, but I’d made the mistake of wearing a sweater and it was VERY hot. I visited an old Roman theater and strolled along the harbor. I can’t wait to go back, and this time to take my family and show them around.
Valence
Finally, I can’t fail to mention Valencia, Spain’s 3rd largest city. I love it for many things: its beaches, its climate, its stores (many, many possibilities for shopping fans), its City of Arts and Sciences, its historic center…
