Parking in Montpellier: pay on the street

As in most cities, it’s perfectly possible to park on pay streets in Montpellier. Almost all parking spaces in the city center are regulated. So be sure to mark your parking space on the ground.
Montpellier has equipped itself with a large number of connected parking meters to make parking easier. The intuitive touch screen guides you. All you have to do is enter your license plate number correctly and indicate the precise duration of your parking. Connected parking meters are equipped with credit card readers or coin-operated payment systems. Several applications allow you to park and pay directly from your phone.
To ease traffic congestion, Montpellier town council has imposed a five-hour time limit on parking in the heart of the city. Around the historic center, parking is possible for seven consecutive hours. Further out, for nine hours.
If you’d like to park in Montpellier and gain a few free hours, you’ll find that parking spaces are free from Monday to Saturday, from 6pm to 9am. They are also free on Sundays and public holidays.

Free parking spaces in Montpellier city center are rare and much sought-after by locals. The best way to find cheap and even free parking is to move away from the historic center.
This does, however, mean a long walk or a trip on public transport to visit the city. Free zones can also be less secure. To protect your car, whether private or rented, paid parking lots or TAM parking lots remain the best option.

To park in Montpellier, near the center, without risking a fine or damaging your vehicle, our best proposal is to use paid, guarded parking lots. Open 24/7, they are ideal for multi-day stays.
Seven parking lots are available, including spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility and families, carwash stations and electric vehicle outlets. Daily rates range from €16 to €20.

P+Tram parking lots
Another option for parking in Montpellier: P+Tram parking lots. This is the best option if you’re looking for cheap parking in Montpellier without skimping on security. P+Trams are located close to streetcars and buses. They’re great value for money if you use the line.
A round trip by streetcar or bus from these parking lots costs €4.90 per person. Tickets can be purchased directly from the on-site terminals. All you have to do is validate your ticket on board, on both the outward and return trips. If you’re not taking the streetcar or bus, you’ll pay when you leave the parking lot, and the hourly rate will then apply.
