Cheap parking in Lisbon: where to park in Lisbon?

Parking à Lisbonne, où se garer ?

If you’re coming to Lisbon by car, or if you’re renting one, it’s important to know where to park and the rules of the road in Lisbon.

If you’re staying in Lisbon for more than 3 days, it may be worthwhile having a car on site, as public transport becomes limited to access some of the tourist (and less tourist) sites around Lisbon, the best beaches, etc….

If you’re visiting Lisbon with your own car, or if you’re renting a car in Portugal’s capital for a few days, there’s one essential question to ask: Where can I park the car? Where can I find parking in Lisbon?

Parking in Lisbon: pay on the street

Almost the entire city center is equipped with on-street parking meters. Be careful about where you park your car in Lisbon, making sure you find the nearest parking meter or pay-and-display machine, which will give you information on times, prices and so on. This varies from one part of the city to another: in the old town, there are red zones, where the maximum parking time is 2 hours. In other zones (yellow and green), you can stay for up to 4 hours, after which you have to put some coins back into the machine and replace the ticket on the dashboard.

On this map(click here), you can find all Lisbon’s parking zones, marked in green, yellow or red.

Parking in Lisbon: free street parking

If you don’t want to pay for parking in Lisbon, another option is to park outside the paid parking zones and then take public transport into the city center. For example, you can park on the street for free near theOlaias metro stop, which is outside the pay zones, and then take the metro to the center.

To park close enough to the old town without having to pay, try leaving your car in the street near Santa Apolónia station, where you can either walk to the center or take the train and metro.
