Are you going to Genoa to visit Liguria and Italy for several days? Find out where to park in Genoa!
Finding a cheap parking lot when you want to park for a long time is bound to be a question that crosses your mind when you arrive in a new city. Whether you’re renting a car or coming to Genoa with your own, you’re going to have to find parking in the capital of Liguria.
Genoa – or Genova – is a large metropolis stretched between sea and mountains, with 592,995 inhabitants and 800,000 people in the entire urban area. However, as in Rome, Milan, Pisa and Florence, it’s forbidden to drive in Genoa’s city center. Here’s where to park in Genoa and how to find cheap parking in Genoa.
Parking in Genoa: pay on the street
This is often the easiest and most popular solution when arriving in Genoa, but it’s also one of the least secure, as our little car can be the target of unexpected acts of vandalism. Finding a parking lot in Genoa on the street may well be mission impossible. However, if you still want to take a chance, head for the port and seafront. The nearby boulevards offer plenty of spaces for €2 an hour and up to €15 for a day. Be careful, though, as traffic in Italian cities is regulated. In Genoa, a ZTL, Zona Traffico Limitato (limited traffic zone) applies. This means that only vehicles with special authorization are allowed to circulate in the zone. This ban can be either general or limited to certain hours. Note that these zones are also very closely monitored: it would be a shame to risk a fine by driving through the ZTL…

Parking in Genoa: free street parking
To park on the street in Genoa without paying, keep an eye on the road markings: free spaces are marked with white stripes. If they’re blue, you’ll have to pay to park. But it’s even harder to find a parking space in Genoa without paying. After a few internet searches, we found only two streets where parking is free:
- Piazza Giambattista Raggi,
- Via Moresco.
For those who don’t want to turn endlessly in the streets to find a place to park for free and without being in the ZTL, there’s another possible recourse: private and underground parking lots!
Parking in Genoa: parking in an indoor parking lot
There are a few private parking companies in Genoa, but rates are not fixed, so make sure you don’t get ripped off… We recommend that you reserve your parking space in advance with the Genoa parking companies:
- Parclick: 4 parking lots found around the port and in the town center (€7 for 3 hours, €36 per day),
- Parkimeter: Autorimessa Granaldi parking lot (€1.50 per hour) and Montegrappa Garage (€1.98 per hour),
- Parkopedia: between €2 and €5 for two hours’ parking.
