Parking in Avignon: pay on the street
First of all, it’s perfectly possible to park in Avignon on the street and pay at a parking meter. As parking spaces are regulated, don’t take any risks and opt for spaces with road markings. This type of parking is best suited to short-term visits.
You’re in an orange or yellow zone, in the heart of the city or at the border (allées de l’Oulle, Mérindol or Jacques Tati). You pay by the quarter-hour. Three methods of payment are possible via the parking meters installed in the historic center: coins, bank card (contactless included) or via Paybyphone.
To make things easier for you, you can pay with your phone. Go to the Paybyphone application and even receive an alert when your ticket expires. You can also extend your parking period by up to four hours.
In the orange zone, parking is charged from Monday to Saturday (except public holidays), from 9am to 7pm. Free parking between 12pm and 2pm in yellow zones. Prices range from 20 cents to €1 per quarter-hour. Rates increase with time.

Cheap parking in Avignon: park on the street for free
Free intramural parking in Avignon is a rarity, and much sought-after by locals. To find a cheap or even free parking lot, you’ll have to move away from the center.
However, Avignon town council has planned ahead! If you’ve got at least the whole day ahead of you, opt for the park-and-ride facilities. Located at Piot and Les Italiens, they offer a total of 2,500 free spaces. The ideal way to park in Avignon, without paying anything.
Then simply take the free shuttle bus into the city center. These run every five to ten minutes on average. They take you from 7 a.m. to a maximum of 12 a.m., depending on the day, from the Italians. And from 7 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. maximum from Piot.
On foot, it’s a quarter of a walk from the Italians and five minutes from the Piots to reach the Cité intra-muros.
Finally, the Parking de l’Epi, a ten-minute walk from downtown, is also free. The only drawbacks are that it is not served by shuttles and has fewer than fifty spaces. Worth a try, but you’ve got to be lucky.
