Bloating is caused by the accumulation of intestinal gas. If they are not evacuated, they accumulate and cause pain in the abdomen! Chronic, persistent bloating can cause physical discomfort and be emotionally distressing!

To avoid bloating, avoid this food!

It’s often hard not to use it! We tend to put it in all our dishes! Its distinctive taste enhances the flavors of our delicious meals, but its consumption is not recommended for those sensitive tobloating.

Onions, of course!

The onion, the conductor of tasty dishes, sets the mood in the pan! But beware, if your stomach is a bit shy and doesn’t appreciate excessive« notes« … it can quickly become a nuisance!

Why onions in particular?

Onions can cause bloating and upset your digestion!

Why? Because onions contain compounds like FODMAPs that are difficult for some sensitive people to digest, causing gas, bloating and/or abdominal discomfort.

Did you know?

FODMAPs(Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols) are types of carbohydrate found in foods such as onions, dairy products, certain fruits and sweeteners.

FODMAPs, which are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and ferment in the colon, can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, gas and abdominal pain in sensitive individuals.

Onions also contain compounds called fructans , which can contribute to digestive discomfort.

According to dietician-nutritionist Krutika Nanavati, « Onions contain compounds called fructans. Fructans are a type of carbohydrate that do not break down easily in the small intestine […] eating too many onions can lead to an increase in the amount of gas produced ».

But how? Because when fructans reach the colon undigested, they become a feast for intestinal bacteria, resulting in the production of gas!

For better digestive health, choosing the right ingredients when cooking is essential. Be careful with ingredients that are known to cause bloating and gas!

Don’t forget that diet is one of the keys to resolving digestive discomfort!
