Spend a Sumo evening in Japan’s capital, watching fights and sampling one of Japan’s most traditional dishes!

The symbol of an entire population, the sport par excellence in Japan: Sumo. What if you came to discover and attend a sumo tournament during an exceptional day in the heart of Tokyo? With tickets just for you, you’ll leave your hotel and head for the home of sumo wrestlers, the Ryogoku Kokugikan.

A national sport and a spectacle beyond measure

In the early afternoon, at around 2:00 p.m., a shuttle bus will take you to the Sumo fighting hall. You’re about to witness a real tournament of sumo wrestling, those imposing Japanese gladiators who fight bare-handed, seeking to immobilize their opponents through the strength of their body and mind. Each fight is staged with a presentation of the participants.

To better understand what’s going on in the ring, which is made of clay and covered with a layer of sand, you can use your headphones to listen to the English commentary from your seat in class B on the second floor of the Ryogoku Kokugikan. Each match goes by like a flash, sometimes lasting less than a minute.

It’s in the midst of all this excitement that you’ll be able to make the most of a show that you won’t see anywhere else. What’s more, the show isn’t always in the middle of the arena, it’s also in the stands, all around you.

A traditional tasting

After the tournament, you’ll have the opportunity to dine at a local restaurant and enjoy one of the most traditional sumo dishes, Chankonabe. This is a Japanese fondue made in a traditional pot. The fondue is made with fish or chicken broth, tofu, chicken, Chinese cabbage and shiitake mushrooms. The menu offers a choice of vegetarian or traditional dishes.
