Life expectancy is strongly linked to lifestyle choices such as diet, hygiene and physical activity!

In fact, a recent study revealed that adopting certain daily habits could even save you more than 20 years of life!

These were the findings of theAmerican Society for Nutrition last July! The practice of 8 healthy habits at age 40 would be associated with around 20 extra years of life! Fascinating, isn’t it?

« We were really surprised at how much could be gained by adopting one, two, three or all eight lifestyle factors, » said Xuan-Mai Nguyen, lead author of the study.

« The sooner the better, but even if you only make a small change in your 40s, 50s or 60s, it’s still beneficial, » he adds.

Here are 8 habits to adopt for a longer life!

According to the authors of the study, adding just one of these habits to your daily routine could save you 3 or even 4 years of life!

Discover the eight habits, listed in order, starting with the one that has the greatest impact on lifespan:

  1. Exercise,
  2. No opioid dependence,
  3. Avoid smoking,
  4. Manage your stress levels,
  5. Adhere to a healthy diet,
  6. Do not drink excessively,
  7. Give priority to a good night’s sleep,
  8. Maintain positive social relationships.

To determine these results, the study looked at the lifestyles of over 700,000 people aged between 40 and 99!

« Lack of physical activity, opioid use and smoking have the greatest impact on lifespan, with a 30-45% increased risk of death, » the study states.
