Dominating the village of Vogüé, on the banks of the Ardèche, this imposing château is one of Vogüé’s must-see monuments. Built in the late 12th century on the orders of Raymond I de Vogüé, the building was refurbished in Renaissance style in 1603.

Fortunately, it was completely rebuilt in 1691 by the villagers with the help of the Seigneurs de Voguë. Romanesque in style, it is well worth a visit for its typical Ardèche architecture.

How to get to Vogüé

Located in the Ardèche department, Vogüé is ideally reached by car.

However, it is possible to reach the village by train and then by bus. The nearest train station is in Montélimar. From this TGV/TER station, you can take bus route 76 to Vogüé (direction Vallon-Pont-d’Arc). The line also departs from Valence TGV/TER station.

If you have a car, getting to and visiting Vogüé is obviously easier and more flexible. To get to the heart of the Ardèche, here are a number of itineraries you can follow from the major towns in the area:

  • From Lyon, take the A7 freeway. You’ll pass through Valence. Before Montélimar, take exit 17 and continue on the N7. This will take you around Montélimar to the northeast. Take the D11, then the D86, and finally the N102 and D103 to Vogüé.
  • From Montpellier, take the A9 freeway to Orange, where it branches off onto theA7. Before Montélimar, take exit 18 and follow the D107, then the N102 and finally the D103 towards Vogüé.
  • From Le Puy-en-Velay, take the N88 to Pradelles. Then follow the N102 through the Monts d’Ardèche to Aubenas. Follow the D104 and then the D579 to Vogüé.
