Winter is generally associated with warm, comforting dishes, and what better way to do that than with raclette? Although this mountain recipe is loved by all, it tends to be relatively indigestible.

Here are five tips to help you enjoy a delicious, gourmet raclette, but in a lighter version!

Choosing the right cheese

It seems obvious, yet few people do it.

Cheese, an essential ingredient in raclette, remains a relatively fatty food. So don’t hesitate to opt for a « lighter » cheese.

You can also mix raclette cheese with other, lower-calorie cheeses,such asEmmental, Comté, goat’s cheese and others.

You can also ask the cheesemonger to cut thinner slices of cheese to limit your consumption. We assure you that this will in no way detract from your enjoyment!

Don’t overdo the wine

Admittedly, this may not sound like much fun, since wine, especially white wine, is an integral component of a raclette evening.

Ideally, however, it would be better to leave it in the cellar in favor of still or sparkling water, as you prefer.

Wine tends to slow down digestion, contributing to the heavy, bloated feeling after a raclette.

Limit fatty deli meats

It’s no secret that charcuterie is one of the fattest, highest-calorie foods on the planet .

Rich in saturated fats and sodium, when combined with raclette, it’s easy to imagine the impact it can have on digestion.

Choose lean meats such as white and cured ham, grison or even smoked salmon.

You can also opt for a vegetarian raclette… After all, isn’t the most important part of a raclette the cheese?

No more than two potatoes

Although potatoes are not harmful to your health, they are high in calories. Two potatoes are more than enough for an adult .

If you’re very sporty, you can have three, but no more!

In fact, a serving of two or three potatoes will fill you up without exposing you to the undesirable effects of excessive starch consumption.

In the same vein, it’s not advisable to mix different types of starch when preparing raclette. As a result, bread should be limited or eliminated altogether!

Add vegetables to side dishes

We’ve just reviewed the heavy, fatty, calorie-laden foods found in raclette.

However, it is possible to counterbalance these elements by combining them with lighter foods. For example, accompany your raclette withgherkins, a green salad, steamedvegetables or vegetables grilled directly on top of the raclette machine.
