People who visit Florence just for the art are really missing out on something interesting if they overlook the Museo Galileo. This museum houses many of Galileo’s famous scientific instruments, as well as the thumb, index and middle fingers of the Italian astronomer’s right hand.
European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Meyrin, Switzerland

Otherwise known as CERN, this colossal particle physics laboratory is the site of the Large Hadron Collider: the world’s largest and most powerful particle collider (or gas pedal), which took ten years to build, and is considered « one of mankind’s great engineering milestones. » The facility offers guided tours and summer courses for students.
Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, Paris, France

You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding this place, thanks to the enormous mirror sphere known as La Géode. La Cité is Europe’s largest science museum, and hosts a whole range of exhibitions relating to science and modern popular culture.

The Musée d’Anatomie, attached to the Faculty of Medicine, houses a complex and rare collection: waxes, plaster casts, skeletons, dissection preparations and a display case of teratology… in other words, specimens of abnormal fetuses, congenital malformations and other deformities preserved in jars. A strange museum, then, only accessible via guided tours organized by theMontpellier Tourist Office.
Hayden Planetarium, New York, USA

Probably the best planetarium in the world, New York’s Hayden Planetarium offers a wide range of courses and public presentations by numerous personalities from the world of astronomy and astrophysics. It features a sphere-shaped theater, the upper part of which is occupied by the Star Theater, which projects high-resolution videos onto the dome. The lower section houses the Big Bang Theater, which depicts the birth of the universe in a four-minute activity. When the Hayden Planetarium reopened after renovation in 2000, a model of just eight planets, not including what was then known as the planet Pluto, gave rise to worldwide controversy.
The Natural History Museum, London, United Kingdom

Spend a whole day in London’s iconic Natural History Museum, and you’ll barely have scratched the surface of the museum’s vast collection. The Darwin Centre alone holds tens of millions of preserved species of great historical and scientific value. From dinosaurs to geology, there’s nothing that hasn’t been sifted through.

The Churaumi Aquarium is one of the largest in the world. Its main tank, the « Kuroshio Sea », holds almost 8 million liters of water and contains numerous sea creatures, including whale sharks.

Body Worlds is a traveling exhibition created by Gunther Van Hagens, who invented a plastination technique for preserving real human bodies. The exhibition features real human bodies performing various physical and mental activities, allowing people to see the exact nature of the human body’s interior.
